CANTABILE CONCERT march 6
white waves on the water
Sparkling melodies and shimmering harmonies... Cantabile’s welcomes world-renowned British composer & conductor, Bob Chilcott
For Immediate Release – February 3, 2010
On Saturday, March 6 the Cantabile Choirs’ fourteenth season, “Living Colours of Song” continues with “White Waves on the Water” featuring the Cantabile Girls’ Choir, Young Men’s Chorus, Youth Singers, Men’s Chorus, and Women’s Chorus and guest composer/conductor Bob Chilcott.
Bob Chilcott is one of the most sought-after and celebrated composers and conductors in Britain today. He has been involved in choral music most of his life - he was a chorister in the choir of King's College, Cambridge, and a member of the British vocal group The King's Singers, the most recorded and broadcast vocal ensemble in history. He has been a full time composer since 1997. He is Principal Guest Conductor of the BBC Singers, with whom he works regularly in studio recordings and concerts, and he has also guest conducted the RIAS Kammerchor in Berlin. His busy international career takes him as guest conductor for major choral festivals across the globe. His impressive catalogue of works is published by Oxford University Press.
Since his first appearance with the Cantabile Choirs of Kingston, Bob Chilcott has become an honorary patron of the organization. He is deeply impressed by the high standard of singing, the enthusiasm and dedication of the Cantabile choristers and looks forward to working with them through several days of workshops leading up to the concert.
The concert features the world premiere of ‘Dream Land’ by Mr. Chilcott commissioned by the Cantabile Choirs. Several other of Chilcott’s memorable works will be highlighted on the concert, including “Making Waves”, “Like a Singing Bird” and the powerfully moving “In the Heart of the World.’ His rousing rendition of the traditional Irish folksong “Mairi’s Wedding” has become a favorite of the Youth Singers and audiences alike.
The Men and Women will be featured in a number of combined works including the exquisite romantic masterpiece “Lay a Garland” by Pearsall and rousing spiritual “Jesus Met the Woman at the Well” by Canadian composer Stephen Hatfield.
