Live Concert With The Award-winning La Pietà

Live Concert With The Award-winning La Pietà

Angèle Dubeau, one of Canada's most prominent virtuoso violinists, has
performed on the world's greatest stages in a spectacular career that has
spanned more than thirty years and thirty countries.

Now she is bringing her all-female string ensemble, La Pietà, to Kingston on
February 11th to present a unique spin on classical music that will impress
and delight any music lover.
Highlights of this performance will include Philip Glass's suite from the
film The Hours, and the Latin-American sounds of de Falla, Ginastera and
Piazzolla.

Philip Glass is known primarily for his minimalist sound and repetitive
beats. Angèle Dubeau has worked with Glass since the '90s, and won his
consent for the creation of Philip Glass-Portrait, an album released to
immediate success in 2008. The Quebec violinist and her La Pietà ensemble
interpret some of the most memorable pieces by the master of American
minimalism. Their concert will feature two pieces from this album: Overture
for La Belle et la Bête, and the suite from The Hours. This three-movement
suite for piano, strings, harp and celesta, was arranged by Michael Riesman
from Philip Glass's soundtrack of the Stephen Daldry film (for which Nicole
Kidman won an Oscar in 2003), itself based on the Michael Cunningham novel.

Enhance your concert experience! Karma Tomm of Queen's Conservatory of Music
will moderate a free chat with Angèle Dubeau at 7 p.m. in the Davies Lounge.
