New Shanghai Circus Shows Sold Out At The Grand
The astonishing athletes of the New Shanghai Circus defy gravity and execute breathtaking feats as they stretch the limits of human ability in their spellbinding sold-out show coming to the Grand Theatre.
There is a performance for school children and their teachers on the morning of February 24 and, in the evening, a sold-out show for the public at 7 p.m. Fearless performers with boundless energy bring to Kingston more than two thousand years of Chinese circus tradition. If it's humanly possible - and even if it's not-Shanghai's acrobats, jugglers and contortionists do it with spectacular flair! This show is a beautifully orchestrated presentation of Chinese circus acts dating back to the harvest festivals of 2000 years ago.
Brian McCurdy, Cultural Director, is thrilled with the response to these performances. "The Grand Theatre Presents program is offering a wide range of performances from companies across the globe. Based on the success of these shows, we are expanding our offerings for the 2010-2011 season to include more high-quality, internationally-renowned artists for family and educational performances."
The New Shanghai Circus will amaze and astound audience members with their agility and flexibility. Talented performers will transport the packed house to exotic locales. Thrilling acts include the lion dance, jar juggling, hoop-diving, trapeze, aerial ballet, and much more! Most of the troupe members come from Shanghai and have been training since a very early age. Now putting in three to four hours of training per day, they are ready to perform an array of exhilarating feats!
