City of Kingston Arts Fund Grants

2010 CKAF Operating Grant Program

The City of Kingston Arts Fund provides for approximately $300,000 in Operating Grant Funding per year.

The Jury has discretion with regard to the amounts awarded but normally operating grants will have a $10,000/annum minimum and a $70,000/annum maximum. The issue of limits to funding will be re-examined each year to determine if set criteria should be instituted. Under the present guidelines the Jury will be required to balance two requirements. These are:

  • the need to spread the funding to the maximum number of eligible, high quality applications that would be beneficial to the Kingston community; and
  • the principle of awarding grants that are sufficient to make a substantial impact in the operations of the receiving organization.

PURPOSES OF THE CKAF OPERATING GRANT PROGRAM

The purpose of operating grants is to support the stability, flexibility and leveraging capacity for diverse funding opportunities for arts organizations fulfilling a significant role in the Kingston community. Operating Grants will support core expenses and programming costs.

Operating Grant Applications available:
Operating Grant Application Packages are available for download below. The forms are designed to be completed on your computer, and printed out for submission when complete.
Paper copies are also available for pickup during office hours at:

  • The Kingston Arts Council office (253 Ontario Street, Suite 203 – Office hours: 12:30-4:30pm weekdays);
  • The Reception desk at City Hall (216 Ontario Street); and
  • The Kingston Public Library Information desk (Central Branch, 130 Johnson Street)

Operating Grant Application Deadline:
Completed Applications are due at the Kingston Arts Council Office
on or before Friday May 7th, 2010 at 4:30pm

Operating Grant Guidelines & Applications will be available for download below (in MS Word/Excel format) and are designed to be filled out on your computer and then printed out. These forms should be compatible with both PC and MAC operating systems. Guidelines & Applications are also available in PDF form; the Financial and Statistical Reports are only available in MS Excel format at this time. Please read the Guidelines thoroughly before completing the Application forms.

IMPORTANT:
As a condition of funding, evidence of $2,000,000 liability insurance coverage will be required from the applicant organization before any awarded funds are released. This insurance coverage must name the Kingston Arts Council and the City of Kingston as additional insureds.

It is therefore recommended that you budget for the insurance costs. Because adequate insurance is a prerequisite of funding, all applicants are strongly encouraged to contact an insurance agent/broker prior to submitting their CKAF application. Applicants should obtain an estimate of the costs associated with insuring their particular organization. It may also be wise to include the cost of this insurance in their CKAF Operating Grant Application Budget.

Year End Financial Statements:
Each organization applying for funding must submit its year end financial statements, according to the following parameters:

  • Organizations applying for Operating Grants in excess of $25,000 and/or with annual revenue over $250,000 must submit a single copy only of the Audited Financial Report for the most recent fiscal year available as part of their application package.
  • Organizations applying for Operating Grants of $25,000 or less and with annual revenue of less than $250,000 must submit a single copy only of the Review Engagement Report for the most recent fiscal year available as part of their application package (a Review Engagement Report is reviewed and signed by a chartered accountant, but has not been formally audited).
