| <Back to HOME> "Dear Arts Council Members,As treasurer of the Kingston Arts Council I am appealing to all members for help. As you know the City of Kingston no longer gives operating grants to organizations. The Kingston Arts Council has been fortunate to receive project grants from the city and elsewhere, but maintaining an office/resource centre, running workshops, and coping with telephone, postage and all the other expenses that arise is impossible on membership fees alone. For these reasons we have opted to try the Bingo route to raise some money. This, of course, raises the absolute necessity of getting help from our members. We have 12 bingos between now and the end of June, 2004. The dates and times are as follows: Friday, February 13: 5:30 to 11:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 12: 11:00 am to 4:00 p.m. We need four people for each of the 11:00 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. bingos which entail up to five short bingo sessions and a fair bit of sitting. These bingos are played on terminals. They are spaced out over the evening so one should bring a book. For the 7:00 p.m. bingos we need 10 - 12 people who do two types of jobs: three to four people on the 'bank' to sell the various types of cards at the counters and the remainder as 'runners' who work on the floor to sell the cards directly to the customers. For the 7:00 o'clock bingos two or three people are required at 4:00 to count the cards, prepare the floats and aprons for the bingo at 7. At the end of the sessions some clean up is required. Of course, there is a smoking area to be serviced so if you are willing to work in that area, please say so. We are asking you, please, to volunteer for at least one time frame of three to six hours between now and June to help out your Arts Council.
