Cinderella at the Playhouse
Thousand Islands Playhouse to produce homegrown Cinderella
Local pantomime sure to become an annual tradition in the region
November 30, 2009...The Thousand Islands Playhouse presents Gananoques first ever pantomime, Cinderella, on stage at the Firehall Theatre, December 12th-23rd. Intended for audiences young and old, this production is truly a new Christmas tradition in the making.
This production marks a continuation of the strong partnership between the town of Gananoque and the Playhouse. One that began with this past summers community celebrations during Up the Creek Week," says Playhouse spokesperson Hollie Stewart, and one that we hope to enjoy with many more similar events in the future. The town has always been an integral part of the Playhouses successes and we felt that this was a great way to say how much we appreciate them.
The Playhouse put out its first-ever open audition call to the local communities attracting a wide variety of people who wanted to be involved. The cast, who are currently in daily rehearsals for the childrens show, truly reflect the community, ranging in age from 11-75 years old. This has been such an incredible experience, says Lesley Woodman, who plays Cinderellas evil stepmother, its a great group of people and the style of performance is so ridiculous that I have a lot of trouble not laughing at the people on stage around me.
Pantomime is a holiday tradition almost as old as Christmas itself. The shows, geared to children and families, take the plot of a common fairy tale and mix in local references, slapstick, audience participation, and a few bawdy jokes. In the spirit of the holiday season, the entire event (egg nog, cookies, candy canes and all!) will be pure entertainment. In the end, it makes for a hilarious hour of silliness and fun for people of all ages.
Dont miss this great new family experience!
