Thoughts and Feelings
Vowles paints in a direct way without any pre-planning.
She makes an effort not to think as she proceeds finding
that thinking interrupts the flow of her subconscious
creativity. Liquid acrylic's gorgeous colours mixed
with water are brushed or poured and moved about on
a surface. Vowles begins with a gesture and then shapes
evolve as the subconscious moves her.
It is only when Vowles is done that she sees the picture
as a whole and knows what has come out of her adventure
with the paint. When she is finished, Vowles is as curious
as any other spectator about how these things came to
be.
All are invited to view Verna Vowles paintings during
July 2004 upstairs at "The Upstairs Gallery"
189 Sydenham St., Monday to Friday between 9am-5pm.
