Au revoir! A bientôt!
The Cantabile Youth Singers TOUR France
For Immediate Release – April 7, 2007
This Saturday, April 19th, 2008 the award-winning Cantabile Youth Singers, under the direction of Dr. Mark Sirett, will embark on a tour of France where they have been invited to sing at the Festival Culturelle de Provence.
The tour includes performances in Paris and participation in the Aicler Festival. In addition to sight-seeing and tours, the ten-day trip will involve several performances at historic venues throughout the country. The choral festival in Provence will provide our youth the opportunity to listen, learn, and compete with over twenty choirs from across Europe.
Over the years, Cantabile has traveled over 60, 000 kilometers on tours provincially, nationally, and internationally. The first international tour was to England in 1998. Since then, the Youth Singers have traveled to Ireland, Alberta, the Czech Republic, and most recently, to Italy. At the Cork International Choral Festival 2002 they won the International Jury Award and in Prague they won a Gold Award in the Young2004Prague Festival.
The Youth Singers will perform a free, mini-concert prior to departure 12:30 p.m., Saturday, April 19, at Sydenham Street United Church. The public is cordially invited to attend this informal ‘bon voyage’ concert.
The Cantabile Choirs are grateful to local business people and Artsvest, a new funding initiative through Business for the Arts for their assistance with the tour to France. Through this project, Cantabile was able to secure over $6000 in funding for our bursary fund, which provides financial support to choristers who would otherwise be unable to participate. Cantabile thanks its partners: Judi Cova, personal fitness; Walter Fenlon, Assante; Carolyn Thornburrow, SunLife; Stephanie Milligan, Limestone Financial; and Jacquie Costron, Regional Director Kingston and the Isles, Investor’s Group.
Cantabile would also like to express our appreciation to the Davies Charitable Foundation for providing assistance to the bursary fund.
