Cantabile in concert with the Ottawa Reigional Youth Choir

THIS SATURDAY APRIL 10 at 7:30 in Sydenham Street United Church the younger voices of Cantabile welcome the award-winning Ottawa Regional Youth Choir for a concert entitled LIKE A RED, RED ROSE. This concert of delicate melodies and sweet songs of spring will feature the charming voices of the Cantabile Training Choir and Children’s Choir of Cantabile in their final main stage performance of the season.  Included in the programme will be delightful Welsh and English folksongs, as well as some classics by Scarlatti and Schubert.

A highlight of the evening will be the magnificent Five Mystical Songs by Ralph Vaughan Williams.  One of this English composer’s beloved masterpieces, it consists of five exquisite setting of poetry by George Herbert.   The work will feature the combined voices of the Ottawa Regional Youth Choir and the Cantabile Youth Singers with baritone soloist, Geoffrey Sirett.

Kingstonian and alumnus of Cantabile, Geoffrey is a graduate in voice performance from the University of Western Ontario and now attends the University of Toronto where he is pursuing his Masters in Opera.  Recently he sang Messiah with the Buffalo Philharmonic Chorus and appeared in Bernstein’s Candide.  He was honoured to have won the first round of the Metropolitan Opera Competition in February.  This summer Geoffrey will attend the Aspen Music Festival on full scholarship where he will appear as the Count in Mozart’s Marriage of Figaro.

Accompanying the choirs will be the Quartessence consisting of violinists Gisèle Szczesniak and Melinda Raymond, violist Eileen Beaudette and Liz Tremblay, cello and Michel Szczesniak, piano.
