    • Kingston Arts Council Advocacy Committee

The Advocacy Committee aims to be an effective voice for Kingston artists by being an active working group to improve conditions and prospects for a dynamic arts culture in Kingston.

      Core beliefs

We recognize the contributions of artists and creators across all disciplines including but not restricted to visual art, craft, film, literature in the life of the City and believe it is essential to put in place a cultural policy with a vision for the future of the City.

We believe that a considered program of substantial and sustained support such as the City of Kingston Arts Fund that was established for 2007 2008 to provide annual operating and program support for non-profit arts organizations, should be a permanent annual allocation in the City budget and should continue to grow to meet the needs of the artistic community.

In recognition that the arts community has the expertise, knowledge base, experience, volunteer cadres, and networking capacity to most effectively deliver programs in the arts, to foster excellence and ensure future vitality in all sectors, delivery of arts services should be through these organizations.

Furthermore, arts organizations and their members must continue to have a role in allocation of arts funding, which should support artistic excellence as a core value from which all other benefits of the arts accrue.
