Dusk Dances, the popular and extraordinary outdoor dance festival, is looking for enthusiastic participants (with or without dance experience!) to share their spirit and creativity in the development of a co-operative youth piece. Dusk Dances comes to City Park from July 24 to July 27, 2008.
This year’s choreographer is Aida Sulcs, an interdisciplinary artist/educator who is excited about the prospect of working with creative individuals to create the youth piece for the festival.
If you are between 13 and 18 years old and possess a background of creative expression (dance, theatre, creative movement), you are welcome to join a small number of other like-minded individuals in an open audition that will run as 1 ½ hour workshop. The final piece will be a mix of various approaches to movement as a result of a collaborative effort by the ensemble. There is no cost to participants during the rehearsal and performance process.
AUDITION DATE: Sunday, 4 May, 2008 from 3:30 to 5 p.m.
The audition will be held at Leisa’s School of Dance, 31 Steve Fonyo Drive. (No call or inquires to the studio, please!) All participants must be signed in and ready to go by 3:30 p.m. Please wear comfortable clothes to move in!
Commitment: Rehearsals start on May 10th and continues through to the festival week of July 23rd to 27th, 2008. Rehearsals will be twice a week (including one weekend day) with additional rehearsals closer to the opening of the festival. Attendance is mandatory, particularly for the DRESS REHEARSAL (Wednesday, 23rd July) and all performances (Thursday, 24th July to Sunday, 27th July 2008).
TO APPLY: Submit your name, age, telephone, parents (guardians) names, and a brief description of previous experience (dance or other). Submission should be mailed or emailed to the address below before Saturday, 3 May, 2008 at 7 p.m. Questions about this audition or the festival itself can be directed to Dawn Sadler at [email protected]
