Kingston’s Cantabile Women’s Chorus Semi-finalists in the 2008 CBC CHORAL COMPTETITION.

The Cantabile Women’s Chorus, under the direction of Dr. Mark Sirett, became semi-finalists in the CHORAL 2008, commonly known as the CBC Choral Competition.

The Cantabile Women’s Chorus recorded a tape in early January after a two-hour recording session. The submission was selected from over seventy-five choirs in Ontario, and the tape was forwarded to the quarter finals in Montreal. The members of the jury wrote:

"It was a pleasure for the members of the Jury to listen and evaluate the work of your choir during the National Semi-Final Adjudication that took place in Montreal at the beginning of March. The jury listened intensively to over 94 very fine choirs from across Canada and your choir was chosen as a Semi-Finalist”.

“Over-all lovely balance and blend” “Good sense of character and style” “Bonne musicalité et trés bien phrase”

The Cantabile Women’s Chorus will be heard in concert on Saturday, April 5 in TWILIGHT, 7:30 pm, Sydenham Street United Church. The Women’s Chorus joins the Cantabile Men’s Chorus and Da Capo Chamber Choir from Kitchener-Waterloo. Da Capo is an exceptional chamber choir specializing in 20th century and contemporary a cappella repertoire. They have also been finalist in the CBC Choral Competition in years previously.
