Youth Theatre Training in Ottawa and Toronto for ages 14 - 18

Theatre Ontario renews its Youth Scene Study Programme

Theatre Ontario is pleased to announce that the Youth Scene Study Programme which was introduced last year is being held this coming summer in two locations: Toronto and Ottawa. A new and unique theatre training experience for youth aged 14 to 18.

Youth Intensive Scene Study

4 days of rigorous textual analysis and acting

Saturday, June 26 to Tuesday, June 29, 2010

9:30 to 4:30

Under the instruction of an experienced theatre facilitator, the participants will learn how to delve deeply into a script to find the nuances of character and relationship. They will learn to interpret scripts by exploring acting techniques to support the text and by developing the actors’ tools to increase communication, imagination, physical awareness and listening skills.

BRENDA KAMINO (Toronto instructor): Brenda Kamino has been a performer on many of Canada's best known stages for over 30 years including the Shaw Festival, Theatre Passe Muraille, Factory Theatre, Young Peoples' Theatre, Prairie Theatre Exchange, the National Arts Centre and Edmonton’s Citadel. She has been a popular acting instructor for Theatre Ontario, the Centre for Indigenous Theatre, YPT, and Tarragon Theatre and helped a multitude of actors with her private coaching.  She is presently on the Theatre Advisory at Humber College in Toronto.

JORDAN TANNAHILL (Ottawa Instructor): Jordan is a playwright and director whose theatre work has been developed and presented at prominent stages across Canada, including Magnetic North Theatre Festival, Tarragon Theatre’s Twenty Under Twenty, Buddies in Bad Times Theatre, Great Canadian Theatre Company, and Roseneath Theatre. Most recently he was short-listed for Tarragon Theatre’s 2009 RBC Under 30 Playwriting Competition.

Classes in Toronto will be held at Theatre Direct’s Christie Street Studio (the new Wychwood Barns facility) at Christie Street and St. Clair Avenue.

Classes in Ottawa will be in the rehearsal hall of our partner, the Ottawa Little Theatre, 400 King Edward Avenue in downtown Ottawa.
