Samba Kingston 1st Anniversary Party!

Hey There! Before you get any other cool ideas for Saturday April 8th, I would like to invite you to the Samba Kingston 1st Anniversary Party at the Tir Nan Og Irish Pub - 200 Ontario Street. Those of you that came to the launch party last year will remember what an incredible event this was as we danced and sang samba 'til 2am! If you're not familiar with Samba Kingston, let me add that our bagpipe lovin' town hasn't been the same since the arrival of Brasilian samba. Come to this event and see why!

Joined by our very special guests Samba Ottawa and Dr. Jelly, this event features the music of Kingston's very own Brasilian samba performance ensemble, Wuawuanco Todos! Come early at 9:30 for a Samba dance lesson led by Juliana of the Association of Brasilians in Kingston.

We sold out last year's launch party by 9:30 and sadly turned away dozens of people. Not this year! I am thrilled to have the Tir Nan Og as our new host. This supportive venue is a beautiful pub with a great menu.

Wuawuanco Todos is now in their third year of performance and this special event will be the last show in their short 8 month season. It has been a very exciting year and we are especially proud to show you our stuff in our finale gig joined by two very talented groups!

I am so proud and thankful of everyone who has supported Samba Kingston in our launch year. This unique celebration of culture and music most certainly deserves a party ~ I hope to see you there!

Samba Kingston Summer Samba Performance Group Auditions - Tuesday April 25th 7pm! All are welcome to come out and give it try!

Muito Obrigado!

Danish/Canadian Jazz Trio PET DOUGLAS

Kingston Tour Date; Thursday, April 13th

Directly from Copenhagen, Denmark, the Danish/Canadian jazz trio “PET Douglas” comes to Canada on tour to give seven concerts in Montreal, Toronto and Kingston. The trio is comprised of three young and innovative jazz musicians: Anders Provis on drums, Canadian Graig Earle playing bass and pianist Simon Toldham.

Rooted in the jazz tradition while pushing boundaries, the trio blends free and structured improvisations with precisely arranged elements to create a sound that is both very direct and free-flowing. They have developed their performance concepts and repertoire over two years of performing across Denmark and Canada.

”…throughout the concert, the flow of ideas seemed endless !” ~ Greg Osby

The Kingston Jazz Society presents PET Douglas in concert on Thursday, April 13 at 7:30 pm in the Wilson Room of the Kingston Frontenac Public Library located at 130 Johnson Street in Downtown Kingston. Tickets are $10 at the door. Don’t miss the opportunity to hear this amazing trio live!

WOMEN AT THE WELL

THE CHURCH OF JESUS CHRIST OF LATTER-DAY SAINTS
IS PLEASED TO PRESENT A SACRED MUSICAL CONCERT ENTITLED “WOMEN AT THE WELL”

All are invited to attend a special musical concert entitled “Women at the Well” on Sunday, April 9, 2006, 7:00 p.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Through song, some of the most poignant moments in the New Testament will be shared, as we celebrate the lives and testimonies of the noble and compassionate women who knew the Savior during his mortal ministry. This is a very moving and uplifting tribute, and will be a wonderful way to bring in the spirit of the Easter season.

Featured vocalists will include local children’s entertainer, and two-time Juno Award Nominee Mary Lambert, and her daughter, crowned Kingston Teen Idol, Tabitha Lambert. Recording Artists from Trenton, The Wannamaker Sisters, will also share their beautiful voices and harmonies, along with their cousin, award-winning vocalist, Timma Holt of Campbellford, ON.

Although children are welcome and invited to attend, this is not a "Mary Lambert Concert". The other vocalists involved are absolutely fantastic, and it is a very beautiful and moving musical - a great way to begin thinking about Easter, which is the following weekend. Hope to see you there!

All are welcome, and there is no admission charge. Light refreshments will be served following. The church is located at 2245Battersea Rd. (Take Montreal St. exit and travel approx. 5 km miles north of the 401 - corner of Unity and Battersea Roads)
