The Awards Trophy

The Award

The Kingston Arts Council selected the design of Kingston artist Fred Hedgcock as the official statuette for the Awards for Excellence in the Arts from a juried competition in 2003. The panel selected Fred's sculptural piece as it was felt to represent celebration, triumph and the joy of life. The Davies Charitable Foundation generously provided the commission for the Award design.

Fred Hedgcock

Dr. Fred Hedgcock graduated from the University of Manitoba, and after obtaining his graduate degrees at the University of Western Ontario, was awarded a National Research Council post-doctoral fellowship. He worked as a Professor of Physics at the Royal Military College, University of Ottawa, the Franklin Institute in Philadelphia and McGill University.

Fred studied sculpture at the Saidye Bronfman Centre, Concordia University, Sir Sandford Fleming College and Loyalist College. He has shown his work primarily in Montreal at the Saidye Bronfman Centre, McGill Faculty Club, Thomas More Institute and in private galleries. His recent work in currently on view at the Agnes Etherington Art Centre's Art Rental & Sales Gallery in Kingston.
