Celebrate "Craft Year 2007" in
Port Perry

As part of a nation-wide celebration of Canadian
fine craft, Scugog Council for the Arts and Meta4
Contemporary Craft Gallery are seeking applicants
for a juried
exhibition to be held in Port Perry this spring.
‘Craft Year 2007’ is a year long festival
of events exploring Canada’s craft culture
in all its diversity and creativity. Numerous galleries
and arts organizations will present fine craft exhibitions
across the country throughout 2007.
The Scugog event, ‘With Craft in Mind’ will
be held at the Meta4 Gallery, 200 Queen Street, Port
Perry from May 19 to June 16, with an opening reception
and awards presentation on Thursday, May 24 from
7 to 9 pm. Several prizes will be offered, including
a $250 Doug & Kent Farndale Award, a $250 Framer’s
Gallery Award, a $150 Scugog Council for the Arts
Award and a $150 Meta4 Gallery Award.
For this show, jurors will be looking for outstanding
examples of professional fine craft, created by Canadian
residents within the last two years. The jurors will
be Melanie Egan, Head of Craft at Harbourfront Centre
in Toronto; Barb Bolin, Principal of Haliburton School
of Fine Art (Fleming College) and Birgitta McLeod,
co-owner of Meta4 Gallery.
The entry deadline is
Monday, May 14 and an entry fee of $15 allows applicants
to submit up to three works for consideration.
Applicants must be members of the Scugog Council
for the Arts and they may join the SCA at time of
application.
